I'm So Over Bikinis

...And tanning. It is such ridiculously hard work, that tanning thing. I'm whiter than a snow fox in the sun and though eventually my skin will slightly brown after an ungodly amount of UV exposure (all health and skin issues unmentioned) and I like the way neon looks on my newly darkened hide, bikinis really only look decent on folks with a little color - let's not beat around the bush here (note: always thought that cliche was so suggestive). If there's anything you have come to learn about me, it's that I'm relatively lazy and very cheap, so my backyard-less butt stayed pale last year and will again face the world this year like a full moon in a bright, well-lit meadow.

Oh yes. Bikinis. Granted, a vintage-fit leopard print number graced the bod last summer but after a text message last night from a kindred spirit, the world is ready to see our unsightly razor-burned upper areas and who knows what else no more.

...Which is why I scoured Etsy (obviously) for choices not in the section of Dillards your mom peruses to find a one-piece that will work for the next five years (no hard feelings, mom). I'm also averse to the purposely-costumey pin-up look but if it makes me look I have boobs I'll take it. And now: m-dashes out!

The Asymmetric Slitted Maillot from Yuminum Designs
The Jean belted suit from 1979 Swimwear
Wonder Woman from Meshalo
Ancient Maps Swimsuit from where else? BlackMilk clothing:) *not on Etsy*
The Paris Maillot from Red Dolly Swimwear
Wildflowers Print suit from EekoBaby
And for she who dissents that bikinis are so ancient history...
Antique Map Print Rashie by Eeko Baby...ok, you'll need to add your bottoms but I'm all about a top that eliminates tan lines altogether and which also works with pants.
So while our girl above prefers her swimming experience to be warm (or truthfully, her surfing experience to be rash-guarded) you may disagree with me that bikinis are  bygone, and I applaud your gumption. If you're on the hunt, the above stores have some hot two pieces, too - albeit a little modest, because HA - I'll get you covered up eventually. #Dresslikeagrandma #whatthewhat

I can't agree more! I felt this way last year too.

I've been wanting a vintage bathing suit! They are way more expensive than normal swimwear though. Maybe I'll save up. I've never liked showing certain parts of my body the way most swimsuits do. And I have never fake baked- worried about wrinkling my skin, although I have done the fake spray tans. I think we should just embrace our pastiness! -Jessica L

Even though the one piece is deemed high priestess bathing suit this year ... and the ones you have shown are rad ... I am thinking we need to own our look, whatever in the world *that* may be. I grew up in NJ, loving the sun, who doesn't? Then years later .... eeek. Bring on the bronzers! :-)

Great blog!
